The month of April has brought so many new developments and also some time for reflection…

Combining exceptional dining with striking art
Last week I had the pleasure of installing a display of my tree of life wall art sculptures in one of Birmingham’s finest restaurants, Zen Metro. The exquisite cuisine is truly at home in this visually appealing establishment, the perfect setting for some of my most recognisable pieces. The four wire art sculptures pictured represent the seasons of the year with delicate gemstones individually threaded on to wire. The display is available to purchase from myself or Zen Metro. You will find a whole host of my wire art items, so please take a trip down and see them for yourself.
Clay workshops at the elegant Ellenborough Park Hotel and Spa in the Cotswolds
Not all Fridays are created equal, this Friday I visited Ellenborough Park, Hotel and Spa to deliver one of my clay workshops. As part of a media day for the hotel, I taught a host of attendees how to use clay and to create models that reflected their moods. It was a great day and I really enjoyed seeing the creativity pouring out of the session. If you would like to speak more about my clay workshop packages, please contact me.
Raising money for Birmingham Mind
April saw the delivery of another clay workshop but this time, all in aid of the inspiring local charity, Birmingham Mind. The money raised will go towards helping the charity to run their mental health helpline, which currently takes roughly 400 calls every week. This telephone support offers guidance and advice to those most in need and the service really helps change and save lives. For more information or to donate, please visit this link.
Steampunk Wedding pieces
A wonderful couple recently reached out to me to create a matching set of steampunk inspired pieces for them to wear on their wedding day. For the bride, I created an intricate hair accessory piece with individually layered cogs. For the groom, I followed the same theme and constructed a lapel pin with the same coloured cogs. They were over the moon and shared these photos from their big day. For more information about my steampunk jewellery and accessory pieces, please get in touch.
Visiting friends and ‘Walk, talk and get inspired’
I was very excited to have friends visiting from New Zealand this month, it has been 10 years since I moved back home from New Zealand, so it was great to reminisce and also be able to show off the beautiful city of Birmingham. It’s such an inspiring place and was great to see the city from a visitor’s perspective.
I’ve also been exploring more of the area as part of a self-started initiative to ‘walk, talk and get inspired’. A friend and I spend 1 hour a week walking around our local nature reserve to help boost our mental wellbeing and spark new ideas.
Working ON my business as well as IN it
It’s so very easy to get carried away with the day-to-day running of a business that you forget to work ON your business. As a business owner who wants to continually grow, I decided to take part in the Steamhouse mentor scheme, where I have been gaining from the experience of a business growth mentor. As part of the scheme I have created an updated business plan and am getting advice and insight into the best finance practices. I have been taking some exciting steps and am really excited to see how I can improve and (excuse the pun) branch out. So watch this space.
What’s coming up for Akers of Art
A few bespoke orders

I have had the pleasure of working on three bespoke pieces recently, something I absolutely adore doing. Two are creatures I hadn’t made before and the other is one of my signature tree of life wire art pieces with a new free-standing feature. I can’t reveal them just yet, so keep your eyes peeled for updates. To order a bespoke jewellery or art piece just the way you want it, please contact me.
