March has been a month of variety for Akers of Art. I have been able to work on a number of projects spanning my full range of disciplines. Here’s what I have been up to…
I was honoured to be selected to exhibit my pieces at an exclusive exhibition at Alpha Towers in Birmingham. The stunning pop-up space, usually used as offices, provided a breathtaking backdrop of the city and it was great to be surrounded by 6 other inspiring artists and creators. These included:

You will have seen me share some of the wonderful creations from my Prince’s Trust workshops previously and this month we have been able to bring the pieces to life. Taking 3-4 days to dry, my clay workshops can be delivered over a 2 week period to really get the most out of being creative. Just take a look at the transformation of these pieces with the addition of paint.

This month I have had the pleasure to work on a bespoke sculpture which is going to be given as a gift by my client. My client had quite a clear idea of what they wanted the wire art sculpture to look like, so we had a quick meeting to discuss their ideas and the space it was going to be calling home when finished.
After choosing the wire colour and gemstones they wanted, I got to work on creating sketches to make sure they were happy with the design. To my delight, they were really pleased with the sketches and the quote to complete the project, so I began work right away. Communication throughout the process is key to making sure my clients get exactly what they are looking for.

The large-scale cherry blossom tree I have been working on is really taking shape now and I’m so pleased with it’s progress. With over 100 hours of wire threading, weaving and cutting, the branches are now coming to life with individual gemstones and delicate leaves. With company culture getting the recognition it deserves, more and more organisations are wanting to use tools and assets to instil positivity and their company culture and ethos for their staff. I have recently completed a word art mural in the corporate colours of a solicitors in Birmingham. The beauty of hand-painted murals is that they are completely unique and last a lot longer than vinyl stickers. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss my hand-painted mural packages.
As part of the many disciplines I offer, I will soon be offering lino printing workshops. It has been a while since I did lino printing regularly, so I will be attending a one day refresher course with lino print expert, Ellie.
