Finally Time To Share The Top-Secret Projects From May

I’m so excited to finally be able to show you some of the things I’ve been working on over the month of May. There were lots of very top-secret projects this month that I teased at the end of my last instalment. The wait is over and I can’t wait for you to see what I’ve been busy working on…

Wedding Season In Full Bloom

I was recently contacted by a beautiful bride-to-be to create something unique for her to wear in her hair on her wedding day. She was very clear in what she was wanting, they were having a whimsical, English meadow styled wedding and she came to me with some ideas, a fabric piece that represented the meadow style she was going for along with the bridesmaid’s dress colours.

After meeting with her in person I felt as though I picked up on her personal style and started work on a sketch I thought reflected her requirements. Instantly she was in-love, so I got to work and began creating this completely bespoke hairpiece. I am so pleased with how it all came together and how the different colours the bridesmaids were wearing were so well represented with the gemstones I used and the intricate nature of the wire.

If you’ve got an event coming up soon, why not ask me to create something completely bespoke that matches your requirements perfectly.

A Workshop That Got Everyone Talking

Clay Workshoppng

There are so many amazing benefits to running a clay workshop and the one I did recently for The Prince’s Trust was no different. As part of a programme to help young adults, between the age of 19 and 30, expand their experience and confidence in order to find employment, The Prince’s Trust came to me to run a clay workshop centered around diversity and equality. The attendees were each tasked with creating a piece that represented themselves and their ideas on these subject areas.

They all did amazingly well and I thought their creations were fantastic. One of the young adults in particular made me so proud though… At the start of the session, the programme leader explained to me that there was one participant who had never spoken to him and that they rarely got involved in the planned activities.

Throughout the session, I could see their confidence grow and they were chatting constantly by the end. It was so amazing to see how the session helped her so quickly and that she felt she could relax and be more open.

If you’re considering one of my workshops for your team, a group you’re part of or even for a family gathering, please get in touch.

I’m Still Standing Better Than I Ever Did!

Bass player 19 year old sculprturejpeg

Just like the Elton John song, this guy is still standing! I realised recently that it’s been a whopping 19 years since I created my very first wire art musician sculpture, the time has flown by so fast and now it’s time to revisit my love for creating these wonderful musicians again. After mentioning my Artist Series on social media I was approached by Paula Gabb, who organises fantastic exhibitions across the City of Birmingham and beyond. She is planning an exhibition at live music venue, The Velvet Rooms, on Broad Street in Birmingham and has asked if I would like to showcase my musicians at the venue as part of a mini-exhibition for the event goers to enjoy. So watch this space, details will be coming soon.

I’m Not Just An Award-Winning Artist, I’m Now An Award-Making Artist…

When I was asked by co-chairs of The Birmingham Youth Sports Academy, Jimmy Shabir and Paul Cadmen to create a bespoke award to be presented to their founder, Anwar Khattak at their 20 year celebrations night, I was honoured and very excited. They wanted me to create something that represented the Academy’s main ethos, growing the confidence and abilities of the youth of Birmingham through grass roots sports, no matter their background. They felt my iconic ‘Tree Of Life’ represented that ethos perfectly and when Anwar came up to me at the end of the night, he was overwhelmed by the award I had created. Well done to the whole team at BYSA for their amazing achievements and good luck for the bright future you all have ahead of you.

A Gift Like No Other…

On to another unveiling of a top-secret project I have been busy working on now and one of the largest pieces I’ve completed to date. When Lisa asked me if I could make something special for her partner, Roger, as a gift, I thought she would be wanting some kind of lapel pin or wall art. I soon realised Lisa’s plans were much BIGGER than I gave her credit for! Her partner who is a Director of Telford Steel Framing, so she wanted something that would be at home in their impressive offices and that would represent Roger’s children too. After a consultation with Lisa I put together some sketches which she absolutely loved, then the fun began.

I really enjoyed this project, it was the first time I have incorporated two trees and I just adored including Roger’s children’s initials in the roots, what a lovely, unique touch. It’s safe to say he was pleased with the present, I just don’t know how Lisa’s going to top this one next year!

My wonderful workshops…

Compilation of Jewellery from Akers of Art jpeg

As we move closer to the wedding season, requests for my workshops always increase and this year is no different. The most popular with all-female groups is the jewellery making workshop I offer. During the session, each attendee gets the opportunity to either create a handwoven wire rose pendant or a wire woven tumbled gemstone of their choice. My workshops are always such a wonderful way to come together in a shared interest, they really break the ice and everyone gets to take something away with them to keep forever. If you’re interested in a workshop for work or with family and friends, please contact me for more information.

I don’t know if you know, but I love to talk…

Networking eventsjpeg

A big part of my working life is meeting and connecting with new people and networking has always been such an important part of my business growth. I love hearing everyone’s stories and seeing the enthusiasm they have for my artwork. If you’re interested in attending any networking meetings in and around Birmingham or even online, please message me and I’ll be happy to suggest some brilliant opportunities for connecting.

It's all change at the Red Brick Market

New wall at the Red Brick Marketsjpeg

The past two weeks have seen me make some changes to my space at the Red Brick Market in Digbeth. The plan was always to have a space that I could go to and create my pieces from. As the business has grown and the scale of my pieces has got bigger, it has been increasingly difficult to dedicate time to working from the market. I absolutely love having my pieces on show in such a creative space, so I’ve decided to scale down my area and change to a wall-only space. If you ever visit, please make sure to take photos and videos and tag me on social media, I’d love to see them!

Fashionable Fathers

Mens Jewellery from Akers of Artjpeg

With the year already disappearing at break neck speeds, it’s a good idea to get your orders for Father’s Day in sooner rather than later. With a whole host of unique and eyecatching men’s pieces, you’re bound to find the perfect item to match their character. From Bowtie pins and lapel pins to beaded bracelets and striking wall art, there’s something for everyone and any budget.

I am also going to be featuring some of the wonderful testimonials I’ve received in my marketing in May, if you have purchased from me before and would like to share a testimonial, I would really appreciate it.

Keep your eyes peeled for the next update. In the meantime, if you’d like to talk about a commission or would like to purchase an item, please visit my website or email me.

February Newsletter - What The Month Of Love Had In Store For Akers of Art

February has been a brilliant month full of variety, new connections and fabulous creations for Akers of Art. I’m excited to share what I’ve been busy doing over this past month with you all.

February Is The Month Of Love

To celebrate the month of love and Valentine’s Day, I chose to feature some of my beautiful Rose Quartz pieces on my Instagram and Facebook posts. Rose quartz is believed to encourage self-love as well and attract the love of others. This beautiful pink stone also makes for the perfect choice for jewellery pieces as well as wall art and has been a really popular choice for those wanting to treat themselves. This hand-woven beaded bracelet is a great example and is available in your choice of wire colour.

Akers Of Art On Display In the Birmingham Library

February also saw the installation of a trio of my Tree of Life sculptures being featured in the wonderful Birmingham City Library. Hundreds of visitors come to the library every week and I’m so proud to know that they will now also be able to see my pieces when they visit this inspiring space. If you go down for a visit, be sure to share my pieces on your socials, I’d love to see your snaps.

New Commission Installed

I’ve also been busy creating a beautifully bespoke set of sculptures for a client who needed some inspirational art for their home space. Featuring three types of gemstones, each handwoven to create unique Trees of Life, this commission has been a joy from beginning to end. Starting with a home visit to see the space and discuss concepts, colours and expectations, I then create illustrations to represent my vision for the project. Once all approved I start work on creating the masterpieces that now look so at home in this magnificent space. If you’d like a free phone consultation to discuss how my commission process works and pricing, please send me an email with your availability.

Clay Workshops At 1000 Trades in Birmingham

I haven’t just been busy with wire creations this month, I’ve also been enjoying working with my other love, clay. I was approached a little while back by ‘experience bookers’ BUKT, to deliver a series of clay workshops in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter. These evening sessions are so much fun and I’ve seen some fantastic creations and I always get such great feedback from the participants. Clay workshops are a brilliant team-building exercise and with more and more people getting back into the office, they are a really popular corporate day with a difference. For more information on availability and pricing please get in touch.
