Moving in and moving on

Moving in and moving on

July was a month full of settling into a new space and getting on board with some exciting changes for Akers Of Art...

Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby!

I was so excited recently to be asked to create a Tree of Life pendant for a client's wife, to celebrate her big birthday. Her birthstone is Ruby, so it was the perfect choice. Ruby is not a stone I have been lucky enough to work with regularly, so when these stones arrived I was in awe of their beauty. From bright red to deep crimson and even some magenta tones, this stone offers so much variety in colour and teamed perfectly with the antique bronze wire my client chose.

Heading down to Hedsor

July saw some amazing weather and I was so excited to spend some time at the stunning Hedsor House in Berkshire, in early July to deliver two clay workshops for a corporate client. The setting was amazing and really helped inspire some amazing creations from the attendees of the day. I got some fantastic feedback on the day and the day was a real success. If you’re interested in choosing a clay workshop as part of your corporate team building, please get in touch.

Let’s talk about Sax baby

Making the saxophonejpeg

You may remember me teasing some news about me creating a saxophone piece which will be displayed at the Velvet Rooms in Birmingham as part of the Birmingham Art Zone (BAZ) range of exhibitions. Well, work has started on this brand new piece which will be displayed by being hung from the ceiling. I can’t wait to show the finished piece and see it displayed in this new way. If you would like to find out more about my hanging wire art for your space, please contact me.

New ‘In-stock’ items

With the recent temporary closing of the Birmingham Contemporary Art Gallery and my new, larger workspace at my home office, I have decided to start to stock ‘ready-to-go’ items. I will be posting these items on my social media and website and once they’re gone, they’re gone. So if you would love your very own Akers of Art piece but feel overwhelmed by creating a bespoke order, this is the perfect opportunity. Please message me if you’d like to get a sneak peak of what I have ready to go.

Pink to make them wink

One of my wonderful and very vibrant customers recently commissioned me to make a jewellery set that will really stand out. She has amazing pink hair and wanted something to match. I got to work right away and created a necklace, bracelet and matching earring set. I think you’ll agree, this really has the WOW factor. I can’t wait to see a photo of her wearing the set, she’s going to look fab.

What’s coming up for Akers of Art

coming soon jpeg

I am excited to be discussing future workshops with the wonderful REP Café, connected to the REP Theatre. They have an amazing space and I think the workshops will be really popular. I’ll make sure to keep you all up to date with it all as it’d be lovely to see you there.

I have also been planning my exhibitions for the second half of the year including the Open studio event with Cosimo, so keep checking my socials for updates.

My work will also be featured in the awesome Violet Light Magazine, with photoshoot and interviews taking place mid-August. I am really looking forward to collaborating with a team of creatives on this project.
