June Delights

A feature in the Times…

The Times Newspaper AdvertJPEG

Eagle-eyed readers of the Saturday Times, Home and Garden Magazine Jubilee edition will have seen the familiar sight of my artwork this month. It was a really big moment to see my creations in print in one of the largest publications in the UK. The feature focused on my large and small-scale sculptures that are perfect for home and garden spaces. Make sure you get in touch to discuss how you can transform your space with one of my readymade or custom pieces.

Music and Art become one…

Saxaphone14th-16th Oct 04 003jpg

As part of an exclusive series of exhibitions run by BAZ (Birmingham Art Zone), a collection of my sculptures are being featured in both the Velvet Rooms and The Gunmakers Arms. There will be a Wire sculptured Saxophone suspended from the ceiling in the Velvet Rooms, which will be the first time my creations have been displayed this way. I am excited to be able to offer this display method to clients in the future. If you would like to hear more about this new technique, please contact me.

Artist-come engineer…

Learning to weld has always been a dream of mine and now that I’m a member of the STEAMhouse Create program, I’m turning that dream into a reality. I’m looking forward to being taught how to weld and then be able to offer metal stands instead of wooden ones to my ‘freestanding’ sculptures. This development will allow me to perfectly match the metal of the wire sculptures to the base, creating a beautiful synergy between the two.

Carnelian and Copper Tree of Life pendant and earringsjpeg

I was recently asked to commission a Tree of Life pendant to celebrate Birthday and Carnelian was the stone of choice. It was wonderful working with such an intense and striking stone. To order your unique piece for a special life event, please visit my page.

Moving in and moving on…

Moving house jpeg

They say few things are less stressful in life than moving house and I can definitely echo that sentiment. The end of June saw the end of an era and the start of a new chapter, with me saying goodbye to my old home and hello to our new one. Weeks of packing and organising finally came to an end this month when we moved in and I’m so excited to be able to get to work on setting up my new workspace. I’ll have more space to create and also a dedicated office area for all of my admin. Keep posted on my social media for updates on the transformation.

Life outside of Akers of Art…

Charity Workpng

This month I was very excited to take part in a Dragonboat race in aid of WAITS, a charity close to my heart who support Women who have been affected by domestic violence and abuse. It was fantastic to be a part of the day for such a wonderful cause and I look forward to participating again next year.

I also celebrated my rugby team’s promotion to National Challenge 2 Midlands West League. Being a part of the team is so much fun and such an important part of my life. It gives me such a fulfilling social aspect to my life which is essential when you are a sole business owner.
