Finally Time To Share The Top-Secret Projects From May

I’m so excited to finally be able to show you some of the things I’ve been working on over the month of May. There were lots of very top-secret projects this month that I teased at the end of my last instalment. The wait is over and I can’t wait for you to see what I’ve been busy working on…

Wedding Season In Full Bloom

I was recently contacted by a beautiful bride-to-be to create something unique for her to wear in her hair on her wedding day. She was very clear in what she was wanting, they were having a whimsical, English meadow styled wedding and she came to me with some ideas, a fabric piece that represented the meadow style she was going for along with the bridesmaid’s dress colours.

After meeting with her in person I felt as though I picked up on her personal style and started work on a sketch I thought reflected her requirements. Instantly she was in-love, so I got to work and began creating this completely bespoke hairpiece. I am so pleased with how it all came together and how the different colours the bridesmaids were wearing were so well represented with the gemstones I used and the intricate nature of the wire.

If you’ve got an event coming up soon, why not ask me to create something completely bespoke that matches your requirements perfectly.

A Workshop That Got Everyone Talking

Clay Workshoppng

There are so many amazing benefits to running a clay workshop and the one I did recently for The Prince’s Trust was no different. As part of a programme to help young adults, between the age of 19 and 30, expand their experience and confidence in order to find employment, The Prince’s Trust came to me to run a clay workshop centered around diversity and equality. The attendees were each tasked with creating a piece that represented themselves and their ideas on these subject areas.

They all did amazingly well and I thought their creations were fantastic. One of the young adults in particular made me so proud though… At the start of the session, the programme leader explained to me that there was one participant who had never spoken to him and that they rarely got involved in the planned activities.

Throughout the session, I could see their confidence grow and they were chatting constantly by the end. It was so amazing to see how the session helped her so quickly and that she felt she could relax and be more open.

If you’re considering one of my workshops for your team, a group you’re part of or even for a family gathering, please get in touch.

I’m Still Standing Better Than I Ever Did!

Just like the Elton John song, this guy is still standing! I realised recently that it’s been a whopping 19 years since I created my very first wire art musician sculpture, the time has flown by so fast and now it’s time to revisit my love for creating these wonderful musicians again. After mentioning my Artist Series on social media I was approached by Paula Gabb, who organises fantastic exhibitions across the City of Birmingham and beyond. She is planning an exhibition at live music venue, The Velvet Rooms, on Broad Street in Birmingham and has asked if I would like to showcase my musicians at the venue as part of a mini-exhibition for the event goers to enjoy. So watch this space, details will be coming soon.

I’m Not Just An Award-Winning Artist, I’m Now An Award-Making Artist…

When I was asked by co-chairs of The Birmingham Youth Sports Academy, Jimmy Shabir and Paul Cadmen to create a bespoke award to be presented to their founder, Anwar Khattak at their 20 year celebrations night, I was honoured and very excited. They wanted me to create something that represented the Academy’s main ethos, growing the confidence and abilities of the youth of Birmingham through grass roots sports, no matter their background. They felt my iconic ‘Tree Of Life’ represented that ethos perfectly and when Anwar came up to me at the end of the night, he was overwhelmed by the award I had created. Well done to the whole team at BYSA for their amazing achievements and good luck for the bright future you all have ahead of you.

A Gift Like No Other…

On to another unveiling of a top-secret project I have been busy working on now and one of the largest pieces I’ve completed to date. When Lisa asked me if I could make something special for her partner, Roger, as a gift, I thought she would be wanting some kind of lapel pin or wall art. I soon realised Lisa’s plans were much BIGGER than I gave her credit for! Her partner who is a Director of Telford Steel Framing, so she wanted something that would be at home in their impressive offices and that would represent Roger’s children too. After a consultation with Lisa I put together some sketches which she absolutely loved, then the fun began.

I really enjoyed this project, it was the first time I have incorporated two trees and I just adored including Roger’s children’s initials in the roots, what a lovely, unique touch. It’s safe to say he was pleased with the present, I just don’t know how Lisa’s going to top this one next year!
